She is daughter of an agricultural labourer from Aldur
Bagalkot. Jan. 4, 2012. Zeba Bakhtiar, a B.Sc. (Horticulture) graduate from the College of Horticulture, Mudigere, walked away with as many as 15 gold medals at the maiden convocation of the University of Horticultural Sciences here on Dec. 28, 2011.
Apart from gold medals in different departments, Zeba won the yellow metal in all the subjects of graduation.
A native of Aldur town in Chickmagalur district, Zeba is the daughter of Basheer Ahmed Bakhtiar, an agricultural labourer. An elated Zeba said after receiving the medals that she dreamt of contributing to the nation and doing something extraordinary. She attributed her success to her parents’ encouragement and the help of well wishers. She said she would continue further studies and research in the field.
Zeba’s success has proved that poverty cannot be a roadblock in pursuing higher education and excelling in the modern world.
It is a general observation that very few Muslim students opt for agricultural sciences for graduation studies. Agriculture is a vast field that also includes horticulture, dairy science, veterinary science, poultry science, home science, agricultural marketing, forestry, agricultural Engineering and seed technology.
